ATaylor94 Posted 1 September Share Posted 1 September Good evening all, My name is Adam, and I am a keen amateur military historian for the battles which my ancestors (and my girlfriends) fought. I have undertaken extensive research on the below individuals. I was wondering if anyone could help with the location of the family medals listed below. I appreciate some medal groups may still be in the family, however, it is unclear which have been sold over the years. Any help or advise, would be greatly appreciated. I respect medal collectors and dealers for keeping medals from being melted down for scrap, I only wish to acquire the medals should they become available. chaz Posted 2 September Share Posted 2 September a big old list. apart from those mentioned, you dont say where you are? being a militaria fan try a militaria fair near you https://www.milweb.net/events.php?etype=uk_militaria I go to Mark Carters at Yate https://www.milweb.net/dealers/trader/markcarter.htm but there are Brittania in London Sunday 17th November, 2024 Wakefield Sunday 6th October, 2024 others on Google. Also, Noonans auctions. One thing, Mark Carter adds with his fairs, is that many of the dealers on the day, do not have web sites or advertising other than working from a small shop or home. visit one and see plenty on display/
ATaylor94 Posted 2 September Author Share Posted 2 September Good evening all, Thank you for your comments which are greatly appreciated. mancpal - I am a member of the British Medal Forum, and have made a similar post on there. Chaz - I agree, it is a big old list. I am also searching for a few Victorian Medal Groups, which I've heard may be easier to find. I live in Epping Forest (Essex) so I've found a few locally and will be attending Britannia in November. I also attended Wakefield last month, as I was passing through (with a large detour)! I hadn't heard about Mark Carter, so I will save the dates. Best wishes, Adam
Knotty Posted 3 September Share Posted 3 September Hi Adam Sorry a bit late but only just seen your post, I don’t know if you were aware or if you have found it but there is a thread called…… “Here is a list of the names on my Medals, certificates, letters, death plaques etc.” Myself and @museumtom ( others previously) try to keep a voluntary list of all medals etc. Forum members have and publish ownership if they wish us to do so. I have included the link below of a spreadsheet, in alphabetical order, which I endeavour to maintain with said ownerships ( I’m hoping to get a new one published soon). Feel free to browse through and check to see if any of our Pals have medals relating to your family, if you wish to contact any of them may I suggest you PM them direct to discuss anything you see. Matlock1418 Posted 3 September Share Posted 3 September (edited) I appreciate that 100 years on that medals might have by now fallen a long way from the tree but perhaps if you could identify the residences of your listed than that might help you and others. ??? = Have you tried looking for their residences [or residences of NoK] using WFA/Fold3 pension records? Because of a distinctive surname I have just checked one there: William Douglas PIERCY, 86122, Labour Corps came from 44 Marlborough Rd, Upton Park E7 And of course from possible Service Records? ATaylor94 Posted 6 September Author Share Posted 6 September Good morning John and Matlock, Thank you both for your messages. John - Thank you for the list of medals held by members. That’s really useful information, regardless of whether the current owner wishes to sell the medals, at least, the family member can raise an interest which is great. Matlock - That’s an interesting idea. I have in my research the residences of all the individual listed. I understand, however, all the following generations have subsequently moved. Any queries, please let me know. Best wishes, Adam
