Chasemuseum Posted 19 August Posted 19 August I had not seen any mention of this on the forum. The remains of this soldier are starting to get some comments in the Australian media. The grave and cemetery had been lost after the war. Several years ago the grave was located and disinterred. The remains have now been in storage at a morgue in Archangel for several years, in a maze of bureaucratic inertia. The most recent article cannot be linked but an older link (2019) to an open media site is attached https://www.abc.net.au/news/2019-09-24/remains-of-long-lost-australian-digger-likely-found-in-russia/11528854 The most recent article as a cut and paste - sorry for the quality There are lots of topics and issues with this. I am not expressing an opinion on these only wishing to raise attention of the debate to those whom I think may be interested.

Chasemuseum Posted 21 August Author Posted 21 August D. thanks for your post. Everything about this has difficulty. Personally I like the idea of WW1 service graves being near where they died, in a CWGC managed cemetery. Some countries have been historically difficult for this and Russia is amongst these. Then, gaining support on this issue while Oz has a socialist prime minister who proudly admits to having been a Trotskyte communist at uni hardly makes it any easier to resolve.
wrightdw Posted 22 August Posted 22 August Thanks for your reply. My book explains in detail why CWGC are incapable of bringing the matter to a resolution. There is also the matter of the 15 other burials which are yet to be recovered. There remains much work to do...
