Julie Posted 29 May , 2024 Posted 29 May , 2024 6Please can you tell me what uniform this soldier is wearing. He sent a picture postcard to my great grandma.
Admin Michelle Young Posted 29 May , 2024 Admin Posted 29 May , 2024 Welcome to the forum Julie. He has the collar badges and uniform of the Australian Imperial Force. With the bandolier, it would suggest a mounted arm of the forces.
Julie Posted 29 May , 2024 Author Posted 29 May , 2024 Wow! My grandma has on her birth certificate her father stated as a deceased soldier. I am going to start tracing my family tree. This photo was given to her mother from him. Thanks.
Admin Michelle Young Posted 29 May , 2024 Admin Posted 29 May , 2024 The good news isn’t that unlike the majority of UK soldiers records, which were destroyed, the AIF records are online and free. There are no battalion patches visible on his uniform unfortunately.
jay dubaya Posted 29 May , 2024 Posted 29 May , 2024 If he died during hostilities his details should be relatively easy to find.
Admin Michelle Young Posted 29 May , 2024 Admin Posted 29 May , 2024 I can’t find anyone of that name on the Australian War records for WW1 I’m afraid. Or on CWGC.
Julie Posted 29 May , 2024 Author Posted 29 May , 2024 Thanks for checking Michelle. I'll see if I can find any more information.
