Huddy Posted 20 May , 2024 Posted 20 May , 2024 Newbie here starting some family history research. I’m interested in garnering any information on the service record for my great grandfather. I know very little aside from the information in the photo, so would appreciate help on where to start! I do know he was born in 1893 and survived the war, as he passed away in 1961. If there are links where I could search further for example, I’d be very grateful for any assistance in this regard.
Admin RussT Posted 20 May , 2024 Admin Posted 20 May , 2024 Welcome to the Forum A lovely display - thanks for showing us. Here is his Medal Index Card - his Medal Roll tells you he served all his time overseas with the 1st Battalion. He first entered France on 02/05/1915 - so being entitled to the 1914/1915 Star, which you have. You can download the War Diary for free from the National Archives to follow his footsteps - I will post a link shortly. Have a look at the Long Long Trail link top left hand corner on how to research a soldier Regards Russ Image courtesy Ancestry
Admin RussT Posted 20 May , 2024 Admin Posted 20 May , 2024 Here is the War Diary - it only goes to December 1915 as the 1st Battalion moved to the Middle East in January 1916. I don't think those War Diaries are digitised yet unfortunately. 1 Battalion Connaught Rangers | The National Archives Russ
