Hi,

Can anyone please give me info on Lieutenant General The Hon. Sir Herbert A. Lawrence, who was Chief of Staff from January 1918 onwards, such as dates of promotion, campaigns etc.

I know he left the Army in 1903 as a Major (apparently he was passed over for promotion, the promotion concerned was given to Haig) and rejoined in 1914.

Thanks,

Frank Bartholomew

Apart from his being Colonel of the 21st Lancers from 1919 and

Colonel of the Manchester Regiment from 1925, the only other thing I

could come up with is a reference at the National Register of Archives:-

GB/NNAF/P16902

Lawrence, Sir Herbert Alexander (1861-1943) Knight Soldier and Banker General

1916-18: papers

National Library of Scotland, Manuscripts Division

Reference : Acc.3678

1 record noted.
