Perhaps you could thank people for the help they gave on the previous thread about this photo, where you said you knew nothing about the soldier?

Hi TomWW1.

Was unable to find a Gadney but found a William Gedney who served in the Army Service Corps, M2/178075. This man's Medal Index Card does not record a Star which considering your William enlisted in 1897 would mean he didn't serve in the theatre of war until after 1st January 1916 but maybe a possibility.

There is a baptism record listing William Thomas Gadney as the father, occupation General Labourer, in Oxfordshire dated 24th September 1902 so maybe your soldier left the army and then rejoined hence no Star.

One other possibility is William Thomas Gadney never served overseas making it a possibility there are no records held online for him.

I attach the Medal Index Card and entry in the Victory Medal and British War Medal Roll.

OK, my apologies though on occasions spelling mistakes occur so I considered the man on the MIC a possibility.

Hi TomWW1,

Found William listed in the Regimental Registers of Service, 1756-1900 and on the Egyptian Medal Roll. Will send over both to you by pm.

In the 1891 Census he is shown as a Private in the West Kent Regiment at Shorncliff.

The form says he attested in 1879.
You said 1897.
Which is it?
If he attested in  1879 he would have been born around 1861, and been 53 at the outbreak of war.
The man in the colourised picture doesn't look anwhere near 51, so I think he, and the man in the attestation form are different people.
