gunnerwalker Posted 6 November Share Posted 6 November Hi Wondering if any of the helpful members can be of assistance again with translating this German postcard. I've played about with the contrast to get it as clear as I think I can get it as some of the text is a bit faded. The address is quite clear though and hopefully can be an avenue to identifying the man pictured. Many thanks in advance!

knittinganddeath Posted 6 November Share Posted 6 November There are some Boy Boysens in the Verlustlisten, but none from Niebüll. The address is to Süderende, Niebüll, Kreis Tondern. Nowadays there is a guesthouse called Süderende in Niebüll.
gunnerwalker Posted 6 November Author Share Posted 6 November @knittinganddeath Would family records be available for the community? Though from a quick search I can see Boysen isn’t an uncommon name in that part of Germany and over into Denmark.
knittinganddeath Posted 6 November Share Posted 6 November I don't know, you could try https://www.danishfamilysearch.dk/ (although my cursory search didn't turn up any hits that seemed plausible).
charlie2 Posted 6 November Share Posted 6 November I had a quick look in the 1911 address book earlier looking for inspiration but didn‘t find anyone under Süderende. https://dibiki.ub.uni-kiel.de/viewer/image/PPN1030098263/13/ Charlie
knittinganddeath Posted 7 November Share Posted 7 November From charlie2's link: Andreas Boysen appears as "Hufner." According to Wikipedia, "ein Hufner ist ein Bauer, der als Grundbesitz eine, mehrere oder einen Teil einer Hufe Land bewirtschaftet" -- a farmer who cultivates one or more or parts of Hufe of land; Duden defines a Hufe as "7 bis 15 Hektar umfassendes Feldmaß." So is it correct that those are the five households in that community and the heads of each household?
