I have been reading the war diaries for the above battalion and I am stumped as to where they were before they relocated to Sailly-Laurette.

The diary entries for the period 9th to 22nd January shows that they were in training at HEUCOURT before going to Sailly-Laurette.

I have found Sailly-Laurette on a map but can not find Heucourt, can anyone help me out?

I believe the entry for the 9th reads  "The Battalion entrained at BRAY, detrained AIRANES and marched to HEUCOURT (in billets)"
They entrained againat Airanes on the 23rd, so they hadn't gone far from that area.

Roughly 5km southest of Airanes according to the map is Heucourt-Croquoison. I suspect that is the place you're looking for :)

It seems to have been a training & rest area - a piece on a man of the Liverpool Scottish for instance notes "On New Year's Day 1916 the 1/10th Battalion was resting in Reninghelst south-west of Ypres but on 8th January transferred to Bailleul and entrained for Pont Rémy. From there they marched to Heucourt-Croquoison south of Abbeville in Picardy where they remained until 4th February and received training in physical drill and bayonet fighting, musketry, range practice, route marching and French digging." https://www.loughborough-rollofhonour.com/page47.htm

Cheers,
Peter
