Dazscuba Posted 21 October , 2023 Share Posted 21 October , 2023 I am not great with Regimental War Diaries but can usually muggle through. This time I am stuck and trying to find the 6th Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment for Aug 1915 in Gallipoli. They only arrived around the 7Th Aug 1915 in Sulva Bay I believe. All I can find is for F&Flanders in 1916 and I have looked both at Ancestry and NA. Any assistance with a link would be great thanks you

Probably your best bet if you haven't done so already is the 33rd Brigade HQ diary which is on Ancestry here I haven't looked through it all but interestingly the 7 South Staffs came under the heading of 33rd Infantry Brigade HQ but the title page was struck through I.e. here on Ancestry Might be worth looking through all the regiments in the Brigade/Division to see if it has been misfiled. The South Staffs diary is interesting as it is not in the usual format and may well have been written later.
alf mcm Posted 21 October , 2023 Share Posted 21 October , 2023 (edited) I can't find it either, it should be on Ancestry in the Gallipoli section, and at The National Archives. The diary has survived and it may be an example of Ancestry's mis-transcribing. However, there is always 'British Regiments at Gallipoli' by the late Ray Westlake. This includes transcriptions of the most important parts all battalion war diaries plus additional detail, and is much easier to read! It is available as a book and on kindle. Te kindle version is very easy to search and looking for 'Lincolnshire' you get some entries saying 'relieved by 6th Lincolnshire' which would be hard to find in the book version. https://www.amazon.co.uk/British-Regiments-Gallipoli-Ray-Westlake-ebook/dp/B00L1E1YZY/ref=sr_1_1?crid=L5PSEPBQUEOA&keywords=british+regiments+at+gallipoli&qid=1697904775&s=books&sprefix=british+regiments+%2Cstripbooks%2C82&sr=1-1 Regards, Alf McM Edited 21 October , 2023 by alf mcm
