Hi . Can anyone help me. I was wondering how rare a ww1 25lb ammonal bag is and any ideas on a value of one if one was to come up for sale ??  I can't find much on the Internet only 1 picture of one in the British army museum.

I appreciate any help and thoughts.

Steve

Supply and demand will determine its value. I’d imagine supply is rather limited, but don’t know what demand is like for this kind of item.

The only Arty 25lb I know of is WW2 vintage, but maybe that’s me showing my ignorance…

Weren't Ammonal bags rubberised since the Ammonium Nitrate in Ammonal is very hygroscopic? It would be amazing for the rubber liner to have lasted all this time.

Steve,

The attached photo is of an ammonal bag that was displayed in a temporary exhibition on WW1 tunnelling and mining at the Big Pit National Coal Museum at Blaenavon in 2010. The canvas bag is rubberised inside. This bag was recovered from a disarmed mine at Vimy
