Matlock1418 Posted 14 March , 2023 Posted 14 March , 2023 Disability pension Index card at WFA/Fold3 has him discharged 10-12-18, a Gratuity £70-0-0 and an address of 43 Main St, Dundee. Have you tried any local Dundee newspaper(s) for report(s) of his wounding(s)? M
chaz Posted 14 March , 2023 Posted 14 March , 2023 his SB card is under 6713 but does not contain the usual note of injury
chaz Posted 14 March , 2023 Posted 14 March , 2023 there are trees on Ancestry, one of which has a picture of him, may be someone there knows.
dink999 Posted 14 March , 2023 Posted 14 March , 2023 He appears on one of the casualty lists that I’m posting, HA 12355. Shown here again to help with the thread Dave

weshallremember Posted 14 March , 2023 Author Posted 14 March , 2023 dave wow that's brilliant and puts him with 8th argyll at that time trevor
Allan1892 Posted 14 March , 2023 Posted 14 March , 2023 Can't find anything in the newspapers but found this in the Police Gazette, 14 November 1916 (images courtesy of Find My Past)
weshallremember Posted 14 March , 2023 Author Posted 14 March , 2023 thanks allan that was when he was in the 3rd argyll's reserve battalion after his first wounding in 1916 trevor
weshallremember Posted 14 March , 2023 Author Posted 14 March , 2023 just found this in the 8th argyll diary where he is listed as wounded may 1917 but no details and his number is listed as S6713
weshallremember Posted 14 March , 2023 Author Posted 14 March , 2023 so from the dates these must be two separate wounds 1st one 15th may 17 and second one around end of july 17 as he was at the hospital 1st august 1917 now just need the 1916 wound detail that got him sent home i was told by a relative it was a grenade but no proof have found map ref I 13C near the chemical works where he was wounded on 15th may 17

weshallremember Posted 14 March , 2023 Author Posted 14 March , 2023 brilliant charlie962 that should be when he was wounded by a grenade just need it in black and white wishful thinking trevor
charlie962 Posted 14 March , 2023 Posted 14 March , 2023 (edited) Slight correction to probable date. Another man on same list, also 2nd Bn, is Mathison 3/6478. His service record says he was wounded 11/5/16. ** Another man of a different Bn has a date 13/5. Quicker publication than I thought at this date. I suggest you think about 11/5/16 as being more probable for McKimmie (see edit below). Charlie **Edit Ditto 2nd Bn, Palmer 1085 actual wounding 11/5/16. Both Palmer and Mathison had only slight wounds and remained at duty. Edited 14 March , 2023 by charlie962
charlie962 Posted 14 March , 2023 Posted 14 March , 2023 War diary 10th and 11th May 1916 (courtesy Nat Archives via Ancestry) shows probable event.

weshallremember Posted 14 March , 2023 Author Posted 14 March , 2023 so the grenade wound with the 2 ARGYLL'S was why he was sent back to uk he was put in the 3rd ARGYLL;S RESERVE BATTALION to recover where he went awol SEPT 1916 then when he returned ?? and got fit he was transferred to the 8th ARGYLL'S where he was wounded twice BRILLIANT
charlie962 Posted 14 March , 2023 Posted 14 March , 2023 1 hour ago, weshallremember said: was grenade I'm hesitant. The war diary says Minnies ie trench mortars. A mine was also exploded. Unlikely a hand grenade but perhaps a rifle grenade if trenches close enough. But I wonder if trench mortar got corrupted to grenade?
