Uncle George Posted 14 March , 2023 Posted 14 March , 2023 I thought Forum members would be interested in the postcard which has just come to light as a family member sorted out some old stuff. Dated 9 March 1916 and posted from “N [?] France” it is from my Great Uncle John Moore, known to me as Uncle Jack. Jack was an Old Contemptible, as his attached Medal Index Card (courtesy of Ancestry) confirms. While I’m at it I’ve attached a few pages from the (unpublished) memoirs of Jack’s brother Frederick Moore. Uncle Fred was in a Reserved Occupation during the Great War (as a shipwright at Devonport Dockyard). In the brief extract from his memoir he writes rather vividly - understandably, as his son John was killed at Anzio in 1944.
