Patte62 Posted 10 March , 2023 Posted 10 March , 2023 Looking for more information about Gunner Alfred James Phillips, Royal Canadian Artillery, Regimental Number 2476570 and survived the War. Alfred James Phillips was living in the area of Pierson, Manitoba, Canada and was born in Peter Head (Scotland) on June 14th 1899. I’ve already found his Service Records and some Documents, like his Immigration Papers and the Census 1926 of Manitoba. Any kind of Information is welcome. Many thanks, Patrick (Belgium)
6RRF Posted 10 March , 2023 Posted 10 March , 2023 Do you have his birth certificate? Peterhead [one word] is a fishing port in North-east Scotland
Allan1892 Posted 10 March , 2023 Posted 10 March , 2023 Good morning Patrick The Phillips family left Scotland for Canada aboard the SS Grampian which sailed from Glasgow on the 18th September 1909. The passenger list (image courtesy of Find My Past) shows that the ship's ports of call in Canada were Quebec and Montreal. The families entry shows that their destination was to be Winnipeg, Manitoba

6RRF Posted 10 March , 2023 Posted 10 March , 2023 Parents were married at Kelsale Suffolk - near Saxmundham, but I've no idea what George Malster Phillips was manager of
Patte62 Posted 10 March , 2023 Author Posted 10 March , 2023 Thanks Stuart for sharing those information

He died in British Columbia in 1958, his memorial stone in the Maple Ridge Cemetery shows that he was a Reverend. (image courtesy of Find A Grave)
6RRF Posted 10 March , 2023 Posted 10 March , 2023 Can't find the family in Peterhead in the 1901 census, but the fact that his parent were married in Suffolk suggests the family was fairly mobile

But already a great help with Allan for the documents above
Mark1959 Posted 10 March , 2023 Posted 10 March , 2023 (edited) There is a sequestration order in the Edinburgh Gazette in 1906 for Phillips and Company Cycle Manufacurers and George Malster Phillips, Cycle Agent. The address of company and man is 152, Great Western Road Glasgow The 3 younger children in the 1911 Canadian census are shown as born in Scotland in 1900, 1906 and 1909. I suspect this is them in Glasgow in 1901. With father misinterpreted as JM. The sister AS Ruddiman being the maiden name of Margaret on AJ's birth entry. George the older brother also shows as being born in Aberdeenshire 1897 ish Name: A J Phillips Age: 1 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1900 Relationship: Son Father's Name: J M Phillips Mother's Name: M Phillips Gender: Male Where born: Aberdeenshire Registration Number: 622/1 Registration district: Maryhill Civil parish: Barony Town: Glasgow County: Lanarkshire Address: 60 Murano St ED: 60 Household schedule number: 39 Line: 10 Roll: CSSCT1901_243 Household Members (Name) Age Relationship J M Phillips 33 Head M Phillips 26 Wife Gs E Phillips 4 Son A J Phillips 1 Son A S Ruddiman 19 Sister Edited 10 March , 2023 by Mark1959

6RRF Posted 10 March , 2023 Posted 10 March , 2023 It does, but I'd never have guessed it from the handwriting alone
tullybrone Posted 10 March , 2023 Posted 10 March , 2023 (edited) You won’t have long to wait to find him on the 1931 Canada Census. It will be released 1st June 2023. https://library-archives.canada.ca/eng/corporate/website-updates/pages/census-1931.aspx Steve Edited 10 March , 2023 by tullybrone
