Private Wilkinson Posted 9 March , 2023 Posted 9 March , 2023 Does anyone have a map / images of the camps on the Carnoy - Montauban Road, please? It seems that there were plenty of these camps - my regiment rotate to-and-from 'Camp No. 22' in December 1916. Thanks.
Howard Posted 10 March , 2023 Posted 10 March , 2023 (edited) I just had a look at a lot of maps on TrenchMapper but could not see any that showed camps. Put Carnoy in the Advanced Search and it will take you there. In case you missed this page, there is mention of Camp 22 on that road. Howard Edited 11 March , 2023 by Howard Typo
Private Wilkinson Posted 11 March , 2023 Author Posted 11 March , 2023 Thanks Howard. That's helpful. I've yet to find any photos or map references, and yet the whole of that area seems to have been populated with camps.
Howard Posted 11 March , 2023 Posted 11 March , 2023 It might help if you could point to some documentation that describes the area being populated with camps. Howard
Private Wilkinson Posted 11 March , 2023 Author Posted 11 March , 2023 Thanks Howard. I'm tracking the movement of 10th battalion West Yorks and there are references to 'Camp 22' on the 'Carnoy-Montauban' road in the relevant unit diaries from Oct 1916+. The 17th Divisional History suggests that the camp was developed by the Division Pioneers, but I can't see support for this in their diary.
