dijomaskrey Posted 8 March , 2023 Posted 8 March , 2023 Hi guys I am trying to find out if tere is a photo of my husbands Great Grandfather Edward Lewis Maskrey he served with The Royal Sussex Regiment 8th Battalion. Unfortunately he succumbed to injuries and died on the 07 April 1918 and buried in France .His soldier number is 21941.I have managed to find most things like service records, census, birth, death etc just wondered if there is a photo anywhere? Many thanks for your guys help and time. Diane
Admin RussT Posted 8 March , 2023 Admin Posted 8 March , 2023 The best place to look (besides asking as many family relatives as possible) is the local newspapers of the time, which often contain short obituaries together with a photograph supplied by the family. The local library/archive centre should have access to such newspapers and which are sometimes available in digital format via sites like British Newspaper Archive and FindMyPast. Happy hunting Regards Russ
Admin RussT Posted 8 March , 2023 Admin Posted 8 March , 2023 You could contact the Surrey Heritage Centre so ask what archives they have that might help your search. From their project, link below, it's possible they have already been through all their archive material (newspapers etc) and have not found a photo of him. busterfield Posted 8 March , 2023 Posted 8 March , 2023 There is a private photo in Ancestry where contacting the tree owner may help.
