Before I go any further - just checking if this man has been considered as a non-commemoration case / is being reviewed or has recently been presented by anyone else ??

Died after discharge from Pulmonary Tuberculosic com. on AS

I have:

  • Medal Roll - BWM - Served in theatre of war [India] 22.12.15 to 16.3.17
  • MIC - BWM
  • SWB List [Badge 122665] - KR para 392 xvi Sick
  • Soldiers' Effects Register [Can't make out place of death = can anyone help with this please?]
  • Disability Pension Card - Discharged 7.8.17
  • Dependant's pension card - Widow, Elizabeth Jane LEE, 72 Standard Rd, Enfield Lock - got a pension for herself and four children
  • Dependants pension ledger page

But not got [but hopefully sought]

  • Pension/Service Record = Anyone found such?
  • Death Certificate
  • His place of burial [Enfield Lock or Edmonton area perhaps]

This rather looks like his death:

Name:                                       Age at Death (in years):

LEE, CHARLES  JAMES               43

GRO Reference: 1917  D Quarter in EDMONTON  Volume 03A  Page 685

and thus back his birth:

Name:                                       Mother's Maiden Surname:

LEE, CHARLES  JAMES                 -

GRO Reference: 1874  J Quarter in EDMONTON  Volume 03A  Page 186

I hope members can please help me with my searches.

TIA

A family tree on Ancestry has a link to his pension record Here

Thanks - I don't have a subscription to Ancestry, so cannot see what that link might show/what it might be, but I suspect it is possibly only WFA/Fold3 card & pension records [???] - Ancestry have those records too - and not a desired Army Service/pension medical record put together after the WW2 bombing of the Arnside warehouse [after all he was dead by then so potentially no real need, as obviously no pension being paid to him, though I don't know how long his widow lived/when she died or any possible remarriage = ???].

Obviously I would prefer something more than the WFA/Fold3 material which I already have.

Hmmm?  How to get a look??

How wrong I was - Very wrong!   Pleased to have been so proved!

Have had an excellent piece of clarifying information provided - that there is a Service/medical record available including some magic words [in this current situation]: Pulmonary TB - Result of active service = A very big thank you to that kind soul!

So providing not he's not been considered before and somehow rejected/not currently being considered then a DC seems the likely next step before a case is made/presented.

In the meantime - Natually, if any member can help identify where he is buried then that would also be much appreciated too.

Not on the IFCP list.

Might be worth emailing Enfield Council about the burial. Thier website says they charge a fee but if you play dumb and ask anyway there's always a chance you'll get what you want for free. No harm in trying, anyway!

A further request of members please ...

= Has anyone seen any newspaper article about Charles James LEE?

His widow got the death expenses grant - so she might have, as was commonly the case, spent some of it for a local newspaper entry ???

Photo, funeral and/or burial details might perhaps be available and useful - in hope.

TIA

  • 2 weeks later...

Death Certificate has been obtained - seems to support/at least not counter a case for commemoration.

Image thanks to GRO

Non-comm. case submitted to CWGC

But ... Still looking for his burial.
