The forage cap front and centre bears an indistinct (blurred) badge, but the men’s overall appearance implies infantry, as does what seems to possibly be a single colour pagri flash. I think that the badge’s outline shape suggests the Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry. Edited 25 January by FROGSMILE

Absolutely Michelle, it’s such a blurred image that it’s difficult to narrow things down a great deal. There seems to be a curved bottom, which could be the Sussex title scroll. It’s a smaller badge though and the one in the photo looks larger, relative to the size of a forage cap.
6RRF Posted 25 January Share Posted 25 January The one in the OP does look as though it has a plume at the top, unlike the DCLI, which is quite "flat" at the top

It’s just the proportionate dimensions that don’t look right. Edited 25 January by FROGSMILE

If the original copy of the photo could be examined through a magnifier it might make a big difference. Part of my rationale was the helmet flash. The Royal Sussex usually favoured a two colour type flash, Blue and Tangerine. Edited 25 January by FROGSMILE

For Royal Sussex units, 1/4th arrived at Egypt in December 1915, but the badge and other features still doesn’t seem right to me. Squinting at the cloth pagri flash it might not be a single colour after all, it’s difficult to tell at this distance and when orthochromatic film isn’t rendering true colour. Perhaps @CorporalPunishmentmight have a view. Edited 25 January by FROGSMILE
