Kathryn Knight Posted 18 January Share Posted 18 January Can anyone identify this uniform and where this soldier might be? It could help to solve a big mystery for me. Thanks very much
6RRF Posted 18 January Share Posted 18 January Very inconsiderate of him not to display any badges - unless anybody can identify the pagri flash The casual, off-duty air and that stone lion[?] could be significant. Any other clues to the mystery?

He could be Hampshires Michelle, several of their TF battalions deployed to India at the beginning of the war in order to relieve regular garrisons. The 5th remained throughout, but the other’s embarked for Gallipoli. Most of the Hampshire battalions, including regulars, adopted various designs of black and yellow as a helmet flash. Russ has suggested earlier in the thread that it stands for ‘Composite’. That does appear to match the context given the combined British and Indian make up of an Indian Division at the time.
