the_ageing_young_rebel Posted 11 November , 2022 Share Posted 11 November , 2022 Hi all There appears to be a plethora of books about the christmas truce but many look a little cheap and perhaps not to the highest historical standard. Is there any that people would recommend? Thanks in advance

Admin Michelle Young Posted 11 November , 2022 Admin Share Posted 11 November , 2022 I’d add Malcom Brown and Shirley Seaton in there. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Christmas-Truce-Western-Front-December/dp/1447264274
Fattyowls Posted 11 November , 2022 Share Posted 11 November , 2022 I was trying to find a similar thread to remember the author of my recommendation; I eventually found it with an alternative spelling of the midwinter festival that some amongst us do not mention until 24th December......... I would recommend all of the above, particularly Chris' comprehensive survey which puts the events into the context of the catastrophic piecemeal attacks that proceeded them. The other one I really like is by Terri Blom-Crocker; it's as much about the development of the myths and legends and is outstanding on that. Pete.
