Pte Edward Devon #12098 KLR CWGC

Can anybody trace the birth record of his father Patrick in Londonderry circa 1859 please

Patrick has a crew record for 1881 stating 1859 Londonderry, similar 1911 census, and a father Edward(deceased) on his marriage 1881.

many thanks

Dave

Hi Dave,

Unfortunately, the available online birth records (civil) for Ireland commences from 1864 only. Occasionally you can be lucky with church records which can go back further, but depends on the parish records.

Thanks Jervis, I thought that might be the case. There's a huge gap in the census records as well.

Seeing as there are a few records stating b.Londonderry I will assume it is true.

Yes. The missing (Irish) census records are somewhere the photo! The public records office including the census records from 1821 - 1891 inclusive were destroyed in the Irish Civil war.
