Thank you for thr help he seems to have quickly been promoted 

 From artillery  to Indian army   may i ask what if would be the reason for this fast promotion

He was in the furniture trade. As an apprentice in 1911. As a salesman and buyer in 1939. 1939 list says born 31/10/1894. That was in Walmer Kent. Died 11/1/1979. Lived in Bournemouth. 

09 February 1919 - Civil & Military Gazette (Lahore) has him granted leave ex-India on medical grounds whilst with 2-17th Infantry. 

His medal records indicate he received the British War Medal only. So did not serve in an operational area. Suggestive of war service in India only.

He seemed to have been  very lucky   going from a possible front line unit like artillery 

Then all suddenly  promoted and off to India 

Il keep diggjng just seems to be gaps possibly his officers papers will give more information.
