Private William Bow 6th Inniskilling Dragoons

William RADBOURNE

Recommended Posts

I joined the Forum in December 2002 regarding my Grandfather William Bow.  Unfortunately, during the years my computer was stolen and i lost all my information, I found a hard copy and would like to touch base with this again.

Iwas involved with a member of the Forum one Simon Fielding and wondered how he is.  We did correspond at the time he was writing a book about the war dead from Bewdley where William lived at the time of his death.

Hello Bill I'm still here I've been fending off the onset of Parkinson's Disease for some years and dealing with my resignation from work I'm still holding up and the book is going ahead with the support of the local history society so it should see daylight in months. While you're here do I have formal permission to  reproduce your photographs?

Hi Simon

So glad to hear from you again and I'm sorry to hear that you're not so well, since we last got in touch, my computer was stolen and all my information with including everything I had on the Forum at the time.  Time seemed to take over from then and I have recently retired and have more time on my hands, so I decided to try the Forum again.

I am also happy to hear that the book is still on track, you definitely have my permission to reproduce my photographs.

A couple of years ago I visited my son who lives in London and while we were over there (by the way I live in South Africa) we visited my cousin who was close to Auntie Ella (William's eldest daughter) and she gave me even more information on William which had never come to light.  I now have a large photograph of William Bow, all the correspondence from the War Office at the time and a letter informing his wife that William was awarded the bar to 1914 Star along with the bar!  i don't know if it is too late but you're welcome to this information.

looking forward to you chatting again.

Regards

Bill

Putting together William BOW, 6th Inniskilling Dragoons and Bewdley comes up with 4425 https://www.cwgc.org/find-records/find-war-dead/casualty-details/928575/william-bow

Since 2002 the WFA/Fold3 have released pension cards so this may [or may not ] be new to you.

Image thanks to WFA/Fold3

9.2.82 is widow's DoB [as potentially she might have been eligible for an age related rate if she had been over 35y - which she wasn't at that time]

18/6 pw = 10/- plus 5/- plus 3/6 pw respectively pension and allowances [childrens' allowances typically until 16y] - a swe can see was paid a typical c.6 months after his death

N/N is Noted for Novel, i.e. special calculation

There are a couple more pension cards but this is the most complete and probably most interesting.

Wonderful to hear from you Bill- - I would love to have copies of pictures as we are bumping up against copyright = copies of any more materials would be very welcome - the picture of Bow's wife and children broke my heart and I couldn't work on the project for a good few weeks.

Best, Simon

Hi Matlock1418

Hi Simon

I will get all the documents together and will scan them and then send them onto you in due course.  the photo in question was the only one i had for years.  I now have several of her but in later years.
