Military Medal details?

My great-uncle Alfred Thomas Howell was awarded the Military Medal whilst in France with the Worcestershire Regiment.

How can I find out what he did to be awarded the medal?

Many thanks

Great! That's as close to a citation as you are likely to get!

He was with the 3rd Bn. when he won it - The National Archives' reference WO 372/23/122858

One of 11 MMs awarded to the 3rd Bn. for the Battle of Amiens during Aug-Sept 1918.

It was listed in the London Gazette on 13 March 1919: https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/31227/page/3429

There might be a bit more in the battalion war diary either at the time of the event, the time of the recommendation or the time of the award. However details are rare.

Thanks very much everyone.  I had already seen the Medal Record from the National Archives.  Now that I have a date from the newspaper article I will try to find out more about what the battalion were doing at that time.

Hi janek. I'm sure you know the 3rd Worcestershire Regiment War Diary is available at the National Archives, free once registered, but I have cut the entry relating to the 25th September 1918 which outlines the regiment holding out by rifle and Lewis gun fire against a counter attack. I would think this is the incident where Percy won his Military Medal. The War Diary can be downloaded at https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C7353058
