David_Blanchard Posted 27 September , 2022 Share Posted 27 September , 2022 (edited) Trying to find more details in respect of Captain Scully RAMC, he was with the 1st Devons on Hill 60 during gas attack 1st May 1915. He is mentioned in the regimental history by C T Atkinson on page 80. There are 5 MICs RAMC on Ancestry, but all appear to be ORs no officers named Scully. Any help appreciated. Acknown Posted 27 September , 2022 Share Posted 27 September , 2022 (edited) From the 1st Devons War Diary: https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C7352267, Lt E Seelly RAMC joined the battalion on 28 Mar 15 at LOCRE: You will find Seelly in the MIC lists. Acknown Posted 27 September , 2022 Share Posted 27 September , 2022 I think this is him: If it is him, he was also MiD. Acknown
David_Blanchard Posted 27 September , 2022 Author Share Posted 27 September , 2022 Found him on the 1911 Census- for Keighley, lived about 3 miles from me. David
Acknown Posted 27 September , 2022 Share Posted 27 September , 2022 Interestingly, the WD records that Lt H L Hopkins MC RAMC was killed on 18 Sep 14. I can't see another doctor arriving in between, so the battalion may have been working without their own during the winter. Acknown
David_Blanchard Posted 27 September , 2022 Author Share Posted 27 September , 2022 Thanks again. It is inferred that he did good work on 2 May in treating the victims of the gas attack on Hill 60, but doesn’t look as though he received any honours.
