Tawhiri Posted 25 September , 2022 Share Posted 25 September , 2022 (edited) Gazetted as a temporary 2nd Lieutenant (on probation) on 26 September 1916. https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/29792/page/10085 It's not clear from his medal index card if his family ever claimed his medals, but with an initial disembarkation date in a theatre of war of 26 October 1914 he would have been eligible for a full trio of 1914 Star, British War, and Victory medals. Tawhiri Posted 25 September , 2022 Share Posted 25 September , 2022 (edited) It looks as though the family moved to the UK in 1899, as FamilySearch has him listed in the Australia, Victoria Outward Passenger Lists, 1852-1924 for this year. https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:Q25C-Q1YL In 1901 the family were living in Widdington, Essex, with Rolf's widowed grandmother and a servant girl. https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:X9N6-KZM Edited 25 September , 2022 by Tawhiri
bobpike Posted 26 September , 2022 Author Share Posted 26 September , 2022 Thank you all. His MIC puts his disembarkation date as 20 October 1914. What does this suggest and do we know when he became a Second Lieutenant, please? Bob
