He was born in Kew, Victoria, Australia in 1892. His parents were George & Minna. He had a brother George. In 1911 they were living at Birchanger, Bishop's Stortford. He was a stockbroker's clerk.

Gazetted as a temporary 2nd Lieutenant (on probation) on 26 September 1916.

It's not clear from his medal index card if his family ever claimed his medals, but with an initial disembarkation date in a theatre of war of 26 October 1914 he would have been eligible for a full trio of 1914 Star, British War, and Victory medals.

It looks as though the family moved to the UK in 1899, as FamilySearch has him listed in the Australia, Victoria Outward Passenger Lists, 1852-1924 for this year.

In 1901 the family were living in Widdington, Essex, with Rolf's widowed grandmother and a servant girl.

Thank you all.

His MIC puts his disembarkation date as 20 October 1914. What does this suggest and do we know when he became a Second Lieutenant,

please?
