Patrick Julian H S O'Gilvey; born Naas, Ireland; September [quarter] 1896.

While looking for information about men on the Cortachy War Memorial, I came across the interesting transcription error above.

For once it seems not to be ancestry's fault. It comes from the data set ""Ireland, Civil Registration Indexes 1845–1958,” Index. FamilySearch,...."

(In case anyone hasn.t realised it should be "Patrick Julian H[arry] S[tanley] Ogilvy, son of the Earl of Airlie.)

Interesting.

More interesting is that the Ogilvy/Ogilvie name has no Irish or Scots Gaelic root, but Welsh.
One of the many Welsh personal and place names in The Old North.

Ocel fa, I doubt that Brythonic speakers got that far north.

I like this mis-transcription. Many trnscription errors come from reading the word out of context. In this case if anything it comes form over use of the context! I suppose I should send a correction but it's such an unusual error I am tempted to leave it.

I can understand your position - but I guess you really know the right course of action to take.

You've probably done it already.
