Red Gate Posted 18 September , 2022 Share Posted 18 September , 2022 In "The Air Defence of Britain 1914-1918", Cole and Cheesman refer to four men and two aircraft being transferred from 1 RAS to Chelmsford in December 1914. One of the men was Sgt R Chambers. There is a RNAS service record for a FSL Reginald Chambers who qualified as a pilot in June 1914 and so would appear to fit in with the timescale. But the record only starts from 31 May 1915 when it seems he started with the RNAS. So please is anyone able to confirm that this is the same man? Would it have been common for someone to transfer from the RFC to the RNAS or vice versa at this stage in the War? Ron da Valli Posted 18 September , 2022 Share Posted 18 September , 2022 The Royal Aero Aviator's Certificates on Ancestry show a Reginald Chambers, born in Godalming, Surrey on the 26th July 1895. He gained his certificate on the 18th June 1914 at The Bristol School, Brooklands. There is also a record of a Reginald Chambers, born on the same date, who died in 1931 & is buried in Ludham, Norfolk. Find A Grave has this grave recorded with Reginald being given the rank of Captain in the RNAS so it would seem that it is the same man.
