Keith_history_buff Posted 26 August , 2022 Posted 26 August , 2022 Evan Augustus Bentley appears on the 1918 Absent Voters List. I cannot find a MIC for him. He is on the 1911 Census at the South Wales Borderers depot. Could it be that he served at home during the war? I cannot find a MIC for this man.

That would be the most likely explanation Keith, unless he was an officer and never claimed his medals. A tiny number of cards were destroyed by rodents before being taken into safe custody for scanning, but numbers were not significant considering the millions of cards saved. I see he was born in Lancashire in 1893. The screenshot is the Electoral Register, rather than the AVL for Llandaff and Barry, which is not known to have survived.
Allan1892 Posted 26 August , 2022 Posted 26 August , 2022 I can only find one item for Evan -- a scrap showing names of soldiers being posted to the 1st Battalion SWB on the 22 February 1911. His service number was 10600. ( had a quick look at several of the other names and found them all at Chatham in the 1911 Census) (image courtesy of Find My Past)

Keith_history_buff Posted 26 August , 2022 Author Posted 26 August , 2022 Apologies, he was indeed at Chatham. My thanks to @Allan1892 for the documentary evidence of him having been at Brecon beforehand. https://search.findmypast.co.uk/record?id=GBM/WO363-4/SUPP/430492 10594 Robert Lees enlisted on 12 January 1911. (Source: Silver War Badge). 10595 Frank Lester Jones enlisted on 16 January 1911. (Source: RAF airman record.) 10604 James Lewis enlisted on 11 February 1911. (Source: Silver War Badge.) (The number sequence is about a year ahead for Special Reserve, with SR 10603 William Watkins attesting on 6 May 1910) It looks likely that he was time expired in February 1923, so perhaps he was renumbered in August 1920. 3 hours ago, Dai Bach y Sowldiwr said: That would be the most likely explanation Keith, unless he was an officer and never claimed his medals. On the one hand it is positive he is on the Electoral Register with a NM notation, but on the other hand it is negative that the AVL has not survived. Thanks for the clarification.
