James Buzz Posted 24 August , 2022 Share Posted 24 August , 2022 I'm researching my great grandfather who served in 13th (Service) Battalion Yorkshire Regiment (Green Howards)? Originally he was recruited into 18th Sherwood Foresters absorbed in April 1916 into another bantam Bn. Great grandfather was a miner and in Aug 1918 he was "mandatory transferred" into the 7th Bn East Kent Regiment (The Buffs). Underneath in the records it records faintly he was send back to the pits. Since neither Regiment where local can anyone educate me to as to why he would be transferred into another Regiment? In 1919 he was awarded the MM and the London Gazette record says 7th Bn The Buffs as well. Many thanks in advance J
ss002d6252 Posted 24 August , 2022 Share Posted 24 August , 2022 There were lots of men moved around at the end of the war. The 13th Bn was disbanded in August 1918, so he was moved to whichever battalion the army saw fit to post him to. Men in essential jobs such as miners were released back to work in the UK, so it looks like he was one of those released from the 7th to return to work in the mines.
