trajan Posted 15 October , 2022 Share Posted 15 October , 2022 Yes, Weyersburg Kirschbaum & Cie, the giveaway being what looks like a reversed 3 at the start (i.e., on the right) of the stamp. There is no good book that shows or lists all these markings, and the style of each maker's mark seems to vary somewhat. SS and I did post a fair few of these marks years ago at https://www.greatwarforum.org/topic/161354-turkish-bayonets/#comment-1565010, but then for some reason not explained SS locked the thread and removed the photographs he had published... But some are also shown on: https://www.greatwarforum.org/topic/227053-turkish-bayonets-ii/#comment-2327700 Trajan

Winterhawk Posted 27 October , 2022 Share Posted 27 October , 2022 While we are sort of on the topic of the Remington Bayonets. What do you make of this one? The bayonet is a Remington P-17 originally manufactured for the British but taken into US service (British marks are scored out). Its the scabbard I am wondering about. I have never seen a Remington painted like this. Is this a home improvement, something that dates from WWII or a reproduction? I have an WWII Aussie scabbard which has the metal painted green so its not unheard of. I am considering purchasing it but am a bit concerned about the scabbard. Can I get an opinion? reese williams Posted 27 October , 2022 Share Posted 27 October , 2022 Many of the US scabbards were painted that color. It's an original paint job.

If you look or have the current owner look on the back of the scabbard leather along the seam - there might well be a maker's stamp - something like JEWELL and possibly a date (eg 1918) Chris

trajan Posted 29 October , 2022 Share Posted 29 October , 2022 Confirm on the green scabbard, I had one a while back before wretched Turkish inflation (currently 84%) and school fees caused a 'review' of my collection...
