I'm researching Lieutenant. David Marmaduke Williams, Old Herefordian., 4th attached 2nd Battalion South Staffordshire Regiment who was killed on Sept. 25th. 1915, at the battle of Loos.

Is it me or is the 2nd battalion war diary missing entries for 25th and 26th Sept 1915?  Trying to get a 2nd battalion account for these days, in particular the 25th.

Many thanks for any help/guidance

In the past I have found offending pages elsewhere in the diary, You would have to look through the entire WO95/1363 to see if the pages were anywhere. That is hundreds of pages.

The nearest you are going to get are the WDs of 6 Infantry Brigade (WO 95/1352 and 2 Div HQ GS WO 95/1287).

This map from the WD of 2 Div HQ GS shows that 2 S Staffs were just below the Canal on 25/09/1915 and this page from the WD of 2 Div Adjutant and Quarter-Master General shows that Lt D M Williams was wounded on 25/09/1915.

I agree with Mark. The page or pages for 25/09 could be anywhere. Sometimes the WD will state See separate report or similar but not in this case. There could be a report in the WDs of 6 IB or 2 Div HQ. I did not make a full search. I did notice a report by a RAMC Officer attached to 2 S Staffs that the gas blew back into the attacking troops faces.

There is also a mention in the WD of 1 Royal Berkshires that the attack by 2 S Staffs on the banks of the canal failed completely. (WO 95/1361 Ancestry p 233).
