Gunner 87 Posted 8 August , 2022 Share Posted 8 August , 2022 Hi Richard. The way I understand it Foch was the higher ranking officer at the outbreak of the Great War. Philipe Petain was a Colonel leading his Brigade at the Battle of Guisa on the 29th August 1914. The following day he was promoted to Brigadier General. Ferdinand Foch was a General de Division in August 1914 leading XX Corps. I hope I got that right Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
