Private James Styles, 7th South African Infantry

Hi all,

I've acquired the pair to 10264 James Styles 7th S.A.I. On his attestation papers he states that he has spent 11 months with Brands Horse.  I haven't been able to find anything on Brands Horse although I know it was a unit in WWI.  I'm trying to understand whether he served with them during or prior to the conflict and more on the unit too.  Below is a screenshot of the relevant part of his attestation papers.  The second line is intriguing.  Does it mean he suffered a gun shot wound or that he served in the G. South West Africa Campaign?

Thanks in advance for your assistance.
