Obal7 Posted 4 August , 2022 Share Posted 4 August , 2022 I didn’t know exactly which forum to post this topic. I recently picked up, what appears to be a WW1 era silver-cigarette case. I was told that the small badge/ medal is a small Imperial Russian Medal for Bravery. Also the Memento Mori, scull and Crossbones (remembering the dead), is quite interesting. There is some faint scratched writing on the inside (8 III 1941?) and other Cyrillic letters. Also coins from 1915. I was wondering if this may look familiar to you as far as the badge/ medal and the scull and crossbones on the back, as far as a “Special Unit?” Imperial Guard unit, a presentation? A gift?Anyway, your thoughts are welcome and appreciated .
Admin DavidOwen Posted 4 August , 2022 Admin Share Posted 4 August , 2022 Thanks to a post elsewhere by @apwright the phrase HA NAM... translates to "In remembrance". But there does not appear to be a name anywhere as to who it may be remembering? Perhaps an event? In need of an expert methinks. I wonder if that is a family crest? Mikhail Posted 4 August , 2022 Share Posted 4 August , 2022 (edited) There are no military connection on this item I see. No military badges, I think this is civilian item and non-military memorabilia. The inscription in Russian means "for memory". here are some examples of Russian and Soviet military cigarette cases. https://podstakanoff.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=727 Edited 4 August , 2022 by Mikhail

AndyBsk Posted 12 August , 2022 Share Posted 12 August , 2022 (edited) personally believe the cigarette box, could be for Boris III. King of Bulgaria, who died on 28.8.1943,hence the memento mori, the silver imperial russian coins could be added later on it and are not period as over engraving, possible the emblem of King Boris was added too later same period as carved the date of death probably. Obal7 Posted 12 August , 2022 Author Share Posted 12 August , 2022 Andy. I believe you may be right. A good analysis! When I got the cigarette case, I was told that the “crest” may be a badge or medal go or courage OR a Bulgarian Crest. thanks.
Obal7 Posted 12 August , 2022 Author Share Posted 12 August , 2022 This is a 1930’s Bulgaria Royal King Boris III shooting medal for excellence. yes! It is a striking resemblance of the badge / medal on the cigarette case.
