Remembered Today:

Inappropriate covers

This post was inspired by the discussion in the "A bit confused" thread now in Skindles (WW2 aircraft on cover of a (probably pirated) reprint of a Gallipoli memoir).

I had thought the attached cover was a spoof, but apparently it can be found on some (probably pirated) copies of the book:

I have a Kindle copy of Now It Can Be Told (Gibbs). It has a picture of WW2 US troops (paratroopers?) on the cover.

(I'm reminded of the taking of photographs of Lionel for the cover of My Life in Kenya in As Time Goes By!)

Here's how I imagine it happened:

"What's this one? Oh yeah. War Classics.

Hmmm... Google images, war... oh that one has helmets and guns! Sweet.

That'll do."

The same picture is used for Now It Can Be Told!

  • 2 weeks later...

Putting a totally idiotic cover on a book sometimes happens when a book is sent to a publisher that has no knowledge of the military. There was a bio of a US WW II general that had a column of Soviet tanks on it!?
