Film Project

Hello everyone,

Over the course of the past year, I have been working on quite an exciting project which I am really excited to finally share with you all today.

Back in 2019, I was a specialist extra on a film called 'The War Below' and with the support of the director John Watts, he allowed me to use some of the unused scenes from the film to create a multimedia project combining history, film and music to pay tribute to the men of The 1/6th Battalion, The Royal Warwickshire Regiment.

I was very lucky to work alongside historian Paul Reed who wrote a specially commissioned piece of writing for the project which was recorded by a very talented voice actor called Nigel Francis. The final aspect of the project was the music which was composed by Karl Whelan and featured the Euphonium as the main solo instrument in the music that was recorded. I am hoping that the music that was used in this film will play a small part in a new commission that I am currently working on with Karl Whelan.

I wanted this project to focus on the events which surrounded the attack that took place at Ovillers La Boisselle on Friday 18th August 1916. The project storyline begins with the events that took place on Saturday 1st July 1916, which resulted in heavy casualties for The 1/6th Battalion, The Royal Warwickshire Regiment and a short period of time where the battalion was forced to rebuild and train new drafts of replacements in preparation for a return to the front line at Ovillers La Boisselle. The next part of the project focuses on the moments leading up to the attack that took place at Ovillers La Boisselle with our project storyline coming to a close in December 1916, when the 1/6th Battalion, The Royal Warwickshire Regiment were withdrawn from the front line for rest and training over the Christmas period before making their return to the front line in late January 1917.

I really hope that you enjoy this unique tribute to all of the men who served with The 1/6th Battalion, The Royal Warwickshire Regiment between July 1916 and March 1917.
