chids Posted 2 July , 2022 Share Posted 2 July , 2022 Once of my ancestors was Alfred John Wootton who joined the London Regiment (City of London Rifles) and was given the Service Number 474628. It would appear that his service records have not survived, I have been unable to find any trace on FMP or Ancestry. I am trying to find out some more specific details on the Regiment so that I can at least have some idea of where he would have served during WW1. I know he survived the War to return home, but was trying to piece together his service and whether he would have seen active service overseas. I know he received the British War Medal and Victory Medal. Any help as always much appreciated. thanks

AndrewSid Posted 2 July , 2022 Share Posted 2 July , 2022 His medal roll also states he arrived in theatre (France) on 19 June 1918 and returned 8th Jan 1919. He is only listed as serving with 12th Bn. war diary should fill in the details of what he experienced. Andy

Bordercollie Posted 2 July , 2022 Share Posted 2 July , 2022 By June 1918 there was only one battalion. The LLT entry for 1/12/London records: 31 January 1918 : transferred to 175th Brigade in 58th (2/1st London) Division, absorbed the disbanded 2/12th Bn and renamed 12th Bn. So this would be the correct diary. https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C7355130
