No naval officer WJ LEAVER (RN, RNR or RNVR) was awarded medals for WW1, so he is porobably not a subject for this Great War Forum.

If the cap belonged to ERA Leaver then there is an epic story behind it.

The tragic loss of HMS ARABIS on 11 February 1916, only three months after her launching. ERA LEAVER was one of those lost but he is not necessarily the man sought by @thedawnpatrol

An image of the cap and its cap badge would help.

Ok, i was under the impression that the circular stiching insode the cap dated it to WW1 or maybe 1920s

thanks for all your input anway

FreeBMD has Leaver, William A. J., mother's name Almond, born Fylde in the June quarter of 1930; married Susan A. Nicholls in Rochdale September quarter of 1957. I'll do some more looking-up when I can to see if there's a naval connection, and let you know by direct message.
