Lee Metford Restoration

Hi all, I need some help

I managed to pickup a 303 sporter last year. At the time was expecting it to be a MLE Mk1, but once collected I discovered it was a MLM mk2 after confirming the 7 groove Metford rifling. Being happy with my purchase, I started collecting the parts required to restore back orginal. ( or as close I can get) Now 12 months down Im nearly finished. I have collected, nose cap, barrel band, front volley sight, repro timber & a dust cover. I have a contact here in NZ to repro a clearing rod for me, but I need some help as to how this rod is secured into the rifle? I have checked the nose cap for a thread, but cant see one. I have see a MLM Mk1 with a channel cut into the botton timber whereby you can see the clearling rod, but havent noticed the same on the Mk2. If the MkII is internal, whats the best way to drill a 3/16 hole at 400mm and get it straight? Can some help me please?

Rod channel is the same MLM MkII & MLE Mk1, the rod screws into a nut inserted into the forend under the barrelĀ

Where in NZ are you? I'm in Whanganui
