Dombyrne Posted 16 June , 2022 Share Posted 16 June , 2022 I was at my parents house in Cork recently sort some stuff out and cam across some interesting photographs. These photos concern my grandmother's brother, Bert Hilliard. I have previously made posts concerning Bert and his service in the MGC - Anyway I found 3 photos as attached. The first one has 'Machine Gun Corps Camp? 1st World War in my mothers handwriting on the back. It's a postcard. I'n sure the writing in the bottom right of the picture says 'Photo O'Brien Fermoy' which would mean that this is more likely to be a Royal Munster Fusilier camp - Bert enlisted into RMF in Sept 1915 and was transferred to MGC in January 1916. The uniforms though don't look quite right to me? Possibly Irish Free State army Uniforms? I'd be very interested in the view of the experts on this site. Second Image is of Bert convalescing post wounds. No Idea where this was taken. I think he convalesced in the English Midlands as the story goes that he met his wife, a nurse, while recovering from wounds. Again any clues gratefully appreciated. The third picture is a portrait of Bert, in MGC uniform, displaying I think, Sergeant stripes? Grateful for any further information or discussion these pictures provoke.
