Hi, am looking for some info about Thomas Arthur Darke who served with the 24th Field Ambulance, taken POW at the Aisne battle on 27th May 1918. His relative has his paybook with service number 457109, service in France from 1917, could he also have had service number 1824,enlisted in 1914 ? Any info will be greatly appreciated,

thanks.

The 6 digit number would tie in with 1st Wessex Field Ambulance.

Just to be clear - although his PoW records show his number as 457159, it was actually 457109 as per the OP's opening post.

457159 belonged to Percy John Lear - as per the attached image - which also shows the re-naming as well as the re-numbering.

Russ

PS: Also suggests that 1824 would have enlisted right at the outbreak  - in fact 1823/457108 enlisted on 07/08/1914.
