chaz Posted 17 May , 2022 Share Posted 17 May , 2022 (edited) according to my records I have a Silver War Medal to Sidney James Wheeler , 113432 RAF , he was a carpenter. His service record says he got a Silver Badge no 6129 on 2-4-19. Also served as 263792 in the Royal Engineers. Entitled to a pair. He was a local man but not found a family connection yet. Ive looked at the SWB register and badge 6129 belonged to P W Wren of the London Regt., T Quinn is recorded as serv no 113432 MGC. serv no 263792 is a J Hides NCLC and Yorks Ive seen A and B suffixes but is there another roll for RAF SWB's? or does silver badge refer to something else. hmsk212 Posted 18 May , 2022 Share Posted 18 May , 2022 Hi 113432 2AM Sidney James Wheeler was indeed awarded Silver War Badge RAF 6129 on 2nd April 1919. There were approximately 11050 badges issued with the RAF Pre-fix. There are no rolls for these badges apart from a partial roll held in "Air2" by the National Archives that covers badges RAF 9426 to RAF 9492. I have researched these badges and can now id about 9150 of them but others are not possible to id as they were issued to Officers, Canadians, Civilians and WRAF and the badges were not noted in their individual records. Badges 201 - 450 were a mixed issue to Officers, WRAF & Civilians, 1701 to 2200 were Canadian Issue, 3001 - 3100 were a mixed issue, 4101 - 4300 were another Canadian Issue and 8301 - 8500 were another mixed issue.
