Percy Rufus Ramsey, HMS Hampshire

My distant cousin, Percy Rufus Ramsey, was an Able Seaman aboard HMS Hampshire and died on 5 June 1916 when the cruiser carrying Lord Kitchener hit a mine and sank in bad weather off the Orkneys.  Percy was born in Hackney, London, on 24 January 1883.

Looking for assistance as I have been unable to find Percy Ramsey commemorated on the CWGC website.  His death is well documented elsewhere.

Is he not Able Seaman SS/315 Percy Ramsey lost with HMS Hampshire on the 5th June 1916 and commemorated on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial?

Many thanks Peter.  That is exactly the record that I require to download a certificate.  Cannot understand why it refused to appear for me despite my searching with all possible combinations of names and initials !

Regards

Nick

No worries :)

I thought it might be some quirk of the way the surname was shown on CWGC and so used Geoff's Search Engine as I usually find that easier to spot any anomalies like Ramsy, Ramsay or Rumsay or even more bizarre variations that wouldn't immediatley spring to mind. http://www.hut-six.co.uk/cgi-bin/search1421.php

Obviously bit surprised to find there is a Ramsey but glad I could help,

Cheers,

Peter
