tommo8016 Posted 6 May , 2022 Share Posted 6 May , 2022 Hi everyone Can anyone shed any light on my great uncle George Ford Jefferies regimental number 26341. Got sparse information I’m not on ancestry . Think he was a Lowerstoft lad in 3 rifles? Any such help hugely appreciated. thank you all

Allan1892 Posted 6 May , 2022 Share Posted 6 May , 2022 Ancestry show a medal index card for a C Jeffries with a notation to see 'George F Jeffries', like wise, the card for George F Jeffries says see 'C Jeffries'. He was in the 3rd Rifle Brigade with a service number of 1063 and he enlisted on the 25 August 1905. He transferred at some stage into the Northamptonshire Regiment with a service number of 26341. He was discharged on the 6 September 1916 due to his wounds. I will check to see if there is anything more. (images courtesy of Ancestry)
tommo8016 Posted 6 May , 2022 Author Share Posted 6 May , 2022 Cheers mate great help . I was on ancestry little while back but never got round too looking into it much. George Ford had a brother Robert and other brother Charles Alfred Jefferies Lowerstoft family.

If he survived beyond 1926 [see pension index card above - claim became DEAD then] then one thinks he must have got better as best as he could - if he did, subject to periodic medicals, his pension would commonly gradually reduce as he improved and he would likely get a final pension settlement once his disablement fell into/below the 10-20% level [sadly his main pension file is likely long deliberately destroyed after its use was ended - his file does not apper to be amongst the very few retained at TNA] M

Allan1892 Posted 6 May , 2022 Share Posted 6 May , 2022 There are service papers available at Ancestry.co.uk -- very faint in parts. One of the pages shows Army Form W. 5125 which confirms that he was with the 3rd Battalion Rifle Brigade when he qualified for the 1914 Star. He transferred to the 2nd Garrison Battalion, Northamptonshire Regiment on the 25 June 1916. (images courtesy of Ancestry)

Allan1892 Posted 6 May , 2022 Share Posted 6 May , 2022 His attestation papers (1905) his answer to question 10 shows that he was in the 2nd Volunteer Battalion, Norfolk regiment (image courtesy of Ancestry)
