lambo220 Posted 3 May , 2022 Share Posted 3 May , 2022 Hi. I'm currently researching Lt K Halden of the 1st Welsh Howitzers and am struggling to understand some of the info in his service record. In one of the docs (from 1920), it refers to 409th and 79th Batteries RFA. I've looked on-line but can't find anything about these units (and I thought by this stage, batteries were typically given letters - A,B,C etc with Brigades having numbers). I dd wonder if this had something to do with his move to India and then Mespotamia, but couldn't find anything on-line. Can anyone help? Thanks as always. David Porter Posted 3 May , 2022 Share Posted 3 May , 2022 409 Bty was raised at Larkhill from June 21, 1917 in a new 96th Army Field Artillery Brigade RFA. As part of that brigade it embarked at Southampton on March 16, 1918 and disembarked at Havre on March 17, 1918. However by that time he had been posted to India. 79th (Howitzer) Bty remained in India, firstly with 6th (Howitzer) Brigade RFA which was broken up around January 22, 1917 then with 217th Brigade RFA (16th Indian Division).
