Cpl. Samuel James Dyias Neely MM, L/13114 16th Lancers - LG 27th June 1918

He was born in Fintona, Co. Tyrone 10th Nov 1884 and married in Belfast on 6th January 1913 (BC & MC from irishgenealogy.ie).

He was living in Newry Street, Kilkeel, Co. Down when he enlisted. Probably working as a tailor.

Seems to have a Royal Irish Rifles, 6926, number too.

DEAD refers to the claim and not necessarily the man

Thanks M. Strange that his 1918 MM LG entry says 'Kilkeel' and his pension card address was still 'Fintona'. He was a tailor in Kilkeel post WW1.

The PLIC address was C/o WE Neely, Fintona - could it perhaps have just been a postal address for him???

Thanks M. Yes his father William still lived in Fintona. He must have served with the RIR for a while after the war.

His military history on FMP shows that he served in SA :
