Alan Koshak1 Posted 11 April , 2022 Share Posted 11 April , 2022 Greetings Friends, Yesterday, a newly found cousin forwarded a photo of her Austrian uncle. I think I've identified the medals but need a little help determining his rank and unit type. Thanks in advance for the assistance. Alan
FROGSMILE Posted 11 April , 2022 Share Posted 11 April , 2022 (edited) The single row of metallic lace around his collar surmounted by three stars I think suggest that he’s a Feldwebel (the Stabsfeldwebel had slightly thicker lace). The short sword with knot attached to the hilt (a ‘hanger’ in English) was carried by NCOs and he is dressed in a Review Order uniform (a parade, not field uniform) of the older double breasted type worn by administrative corps. The chevrons represent years of service. NCOs who voluntarily increased their length of service wore a gold chevron 6 cm wide on the left cuff of their jacket. They then added thinner chevrons (approx 1.3 cm) for 3, 6 and 9 years of service respectively. I’m wondering if he might be from the Gendarmerie or the Medical Corps, but I’m not sure. The best man to comment is @Gabelouhopefully he will be along soon. Edited 11 April , 2022 by FROGSMILE
