WW1 Hook?

Hi all,

 

I have recently got a large metal hook, it was found on the Somme I believe,

 

it looks quite heavy duty, my wallet is in there for scale,

 

Any idea's,

Nice find, knowing exactly where it was found may help but one wonders if it may have once been part of the shell hoisting system of a siege howitzer.

Thanks, good suggestion, it's heavier duty than the one in the photograph, but would make sense for it to do that job,

sadly i didn't find it, just know it came of the Somme in 2002.

I can post some measurement tomorrow, although not sure if that will be of much use,
