I have recently been researching this soldier, and it is a coincidence that his name appeared today in "Remembered Today".

CSM John Skinner VC DCM KOSB – The King's Own Scottish Borderers

It is very worthy to note that his comrade in the same Battalion, on the same day, in the same operation, also was awarded the VC.
