I'm hoping the membership can shed some light on the markings presented.   I picked up this very impressive British Sawback Short Sword with the top of the cross guard marked as such:                                                                                                  5 /00                                                                                                                                                                                              4 Mx

                                                                                                                 6

Is the 4 Mx a regimental marking?  Any and ALL input would be much appreciated.  Thank you !

Ersatz,

it was manufactured by Wilkinson in Feb 1900 (2 00),

I presume It was issued in May 1900 (5 00) to the Duke of Cambridges Own (4th Middlesex) Regiment, weapon/rack number 6.

Edit…..The 4th Middlesex were formed in 1900…..https://www.nam.ac.uk/explore/middlesex-regiment-duke-cambridges-own

nice example,

Dave.
